About MetroCentre, Gateshead

Located on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, the MetroCentre is the largest shopping centre in the UK by floorspace.

Opening in 1986 the MetroCentre has more than 300 shops and restaurants, including four large department stores in House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Bhs.

The MetroCentre has its own train stop and a dedicated junction from the A1 road. With over 10,000 free parking spaces the MetroCentre is easily accessible from across the North East of England. For international travellers, Newcastle International Airport is only 15 minutes drive from the centre.

Travel and parking

By car: The MetroCentre has a dedicated junction from the A1. Follow this road to the south of Newcastle and into Gatehead and follow the signposts for the centre.
